US-Iran negotiations start in ~2 hours in Iran
The discussion around the Douglas Murray/Dave Smith podcast feels like a completely fake discourse.

It’s supposed to give you the impression that it’s anchoring the overtown window further to the right, in reality it is buttressing the rightward boundary of the window.

If you pay close enough attention, you might have noticed that Dave and Douglass both agree that “racialism,” holocaust denial, and certain attitudes about Jews are beyond the pale.

Everyone is clowning on Murray but he succeeded. His job, as hall monitor, is to sharpen the edges of the discussion. If Ian or Darryl are being ambiguous, “hiding their power level,” planting seeds, being subtle— his job is to force them to be explicit and own what they’re saying.

His job is to get them to say “I’m not saying x, all I’m saying is z,” and that’s exactly what happened.
❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷 NEW: Iranian media report that the first signs of the negotiations in Oman are 'positive'

@Middle_East_Spectator
Look at the replies to this tweet. I’m sure he’s doing a bit, but the replies aren’t. BAPsphere is overtly Jewish/Pro-Israel. Now you see.

Trump has made me more optimistic about an Iran deal lately.

Almost everyone is pushing back against war now, including Charlie Kirk and Tucker. Witkoff, Trump, and Vance all want a deal. Waltz is in favor of war but will most likely be fired soon.

Like I’ve said before, the force buildup at Diego Garcia is classic “Trump brinksmanship.”

Iran seems to be more flexible than previously thought, and Trump has been giving positive cues.

My concern, as always, is that the Israelis will sabotage any deal or force a confrontation. This is a true test. If Trump is able to achieve a nuclear deal then that would be an astonishing, truly laudable achievement. But I am still skeptical.
Joe Biden conducted his own diplomacy with Iran in an attempt to put the JCPOA back together, which culminated in the prisoner swap deal in August 2023. But that was completely derailed by October 7th.

Then, in 2024, Israel provoked a confrontation with Iran twice in an attempt to draw the United States into a direct conflict.

If it were up to Obama, Biden or Trump and Rouhani, Raisi or Pezeshkian— this would have been a non-issue. The trouble is Netanyahu. The wild card third party in all of this is Israel.

What happens when Hamas or Hezbollah launch a new offensive (which Israeli media has suggested is possible)? Or Americans are attacked somewhere? Will the United States be able to continue diplomacy?

What happens if Israel kills IRGC or Iranian personnel, or creates some other provocation against Iran? Will Pezeshkian and the moderates prevail over the hardliners and continue diplomacy?

There is nothing cut and dry about this situation.
❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷/🇴🇲 NEW: The U.S. delegation did not repeat its earlier demands about curbing Iran's missile program and ending its support for regional groups, and the discussions were limited to the 'nuclear file', direct talks in the near future are not outside the realm of possibility – Iranian Media

@Middle_East_Spectator
The US and Iran both reported that yesterday’s talks were positive and constructive. They are scheduled to meet next week, this time in Europe, with Oman mediating again.

Trump has reset the 60-day deadline to reach a deal. Iran has proposed a short term interim agreement since a comprehensive deal could take more time.

Reports say that discussions were limited to Iran’s nuclear program and did address its ballistic missile production or support for regional proxies.

Earlier in the week, the Houthis offered to halt their attacks on US naval vessels if the US ends its campaign against them.

It feels like diplomacy is possible and a deal may be within reach. As I’ve always said— I never doubted that Trump wants a deal and uses brinksmanship/maximum pressure to achieve it… but this is much riskier factoring in sabotage by the Israelis.
In fairness to Trump… he is trying.

On tariffs, diplomacy, immigration, the deficit, bureaucracy— he is pointed in the right direction and making an effort.

The problem, as always, is the incompetence, absence of a real strategy, sloppiness, lack of focus.

This trade war, although well-intentioned, is so far a complete disaster owing largely to the sloppy, hastily assembled tariff rates and failure to communicate its goals.
ICYMI: Darryl Cooper (Martyr Made), the supposed “WWII Revisionist,” who blew up on Joe Rogan last year for arguing that Winston Churchill was the true villain of WWII, published a substack piece yesterday addressing the emergence of antisemitism on the Right.

This comes a week after Douglas Murray appeared on Joe Rogan to slam Cooper for his “just asking questions” approach which opens the door to antisemitism.

This is a textbook demonstration of how controlled opposition works.

Amidst growing opposition, the regime will quietly promote actors who pose as spokemen for the opposition but are actually loyal to the regime. These double-agents ascend rapidly, not just because they have backing from the regime, but maybe more importantly because they aren’t opposed by the regime. Barriers are lowered.

So you have someone arguing Hitler wasn’t so bad on Joe Rogan. How is this possible? He just so happens to have worked for a weapons contractor. Being the sole voice pushing something radical on a mainstream platform, he quickly becomes representative or the “face” of these ideas.

This is how the “opposition” comes to be controlled by the regime. Once the double-agents earn credibility and influence inside the opposition, they start to exclude and gatekeep and set the parameters of what constitutes the opposition.

And maybe they don’t even do this intentionally. It is fully possible that Cooper is an actual spy. It is also possible he is simply being promoted because he’s not actually a radical.

Eric Weinstein was just vouching for him last week. Weinstein who called explicitly for the gatekeeping of the groypers. Weinstein who runs Thiel’s VC firm. Joe Rogan who launched the IDW with Weinstein years ago, and who has recently interview Thiel, Bari Weiss, Marc Andreessen…
